From Confusion to Conviction: Kent Halliburton Joins Sat Chats

Our fearless CEO and Co-Founder, Kent Halliburton, recently joined Sat Chats, the Bitcoin beginner podcast that’s helping new Bitcoiners take their first steps toward sovereignty. The conversation—part philosophy, part personal journey—offered listeners a look into how Kent’s background in rooftop solar and global travel led him to view Bitcoin mining as humanity’s next great leap in energy independence.

As Kent put it, “Bitcoin is a better form of money—both technologically and in terms of scarcity. It’s only a matter of time before it becomes the global reserve asset.”

🌍 From Rooftop Solar to Renewable Mining

Before Sazmining, Kent built his career in renewable energy. After earning a computer engineering degree on California’s central coast, he became an executive in the rooftop solar industry—eventually competing with Elon Musk’s cousins at SolarCity. Driven by a lifelong mission to expand human freedom through energy access, Kent saw firsthand how decentralized energy could transform lives.

After years in the corporate grind, he took a two-year sabbatical that brought him to over 20 countries. In Peru’s Sacred Valley, he discovered the Bitcoin white paper—and immediately recognized its potential to do for money what solar had done for energy. “It was the first time I realized how broken the system was,” Kent recalled. “Bitcoin solved a problem I was living with every day.”

Eventually settling in Portugal, Kent began evangelizing Bitcoin—but at the time, even he told people mining wasn’t accessible. That belief, he now admits, was “horribly wrong.” Today, Sazmining exists precisely to prove the opposite: that anyone can participate in Bitcoin’s creation process, sustainably and transparently.

⚡ Mining vs. Buying: Stacking at Cost

During the podcast, Kent broke down what makes mining such a powerful alternative to simply buying Bitcoin.

“When people first hear about Bitcoin, they always ask, ‘Can I mine it?’ I used to say no. I was wrong.”

Mining, he explained, allows people to generate Bitcoin at cost rather than buying it at a markup from an exchange. It’s the difference between producing and consuming value—between stacking sats through energy rather than emotion.

Kent calls it “energy-cost DCA”: your rig converts electricity into Bitcoin over time, providing a steady stream of sats and avoiding the point-of-purchase volatility that scares off many newcomers. It’s the cypherpunk way to make your own money—and with Sazmining’s managed mining model, anyone can do it from anywhere.

🌱 Mining and the Planet

When the hosts asked about Bitcoin’s environmental impact, Kent used his solar background to dispel one of the industry’s biggest myths.

“Bitcoin consumes a lot of electricity—true. But it’s also the cleanest major industry on Earth.”

Over 56% of Bitcoin mining is powered by carbon-free energy, making it greener than any national grid. Meanwhile, the legacy banking system emits roughly five times more carbon. Mining naturally gravitates toward cheap, stranded, or wasted energy—electricity produced in the wrong place or at the wrong time.

As Kent explained, “Bitcoin mining turns wasted energy into economic value. It makes renewable infrastructure more profitable and teaches people about both money and electricity.”

This perspective—rooted in both environmental science and engineering—has shaped Sazmining’s approach. Every Sazmining facility is powered by 100% carbon-free energy, including sites in Norway, Paraguay, Wisconsin, and Ethiopia, where low-cost hydroelectric power meets cutting-edge infrastructure.

🧭 Building a Better System

Kent closed the interview with a message for anyone still on the fence:

“Don’t fight the old system—just build a better one.”

He encouraged new Bitcoiners to look at Bitcoin’s historical compound annual growth rate and see for themselves how transformative it has been over time. “You come for the gains and stay for the revolution,” he said. “The more you stack yourself out of the old system, the freer you become.”

At Sazmining, we share that conviction. Mining isn’t just a financial strategy—it’s a statement of independence. Every rig plugged in through our platform strengthens the Bitcoin network, decentralizes energy use, and empowers people to participate in money creation on their own terms.

🔌 Plug In and Start Stacking Wild Sats

Kent’s appearance on Sat Chats reminded us all why we do what we do: to make Bitcoin mining simple, sustainable, and aligned with Bitcoin’s founding vision.

With Sazmining, you own your rig, we handle the setup, and together we help you stack wild sats—freshly mined, powered entirely by renewable energy.
